Founded in 1976, Les Artisans du Paysage is a Quebec City-based landscape design company dedicated to providing clients with professional landscaping and snow removal services, while ensuring a mutual respect and harmony with the environment.

With a burgeoning business and a staff of 55 employees to manage, Jack Lavoie, Director General of Les Artisans du Paysage struggled with a challenge all successful business owners face at some point – which is how to effectively manage rapid growth in a healthy manner.

“We had no standards in place for the way our management and sales teams processed information or organized their daily work schedules,” said Mr. Lavoie. “This made it very difficult for me to evaluate the efficiency and performance of each team member.”

Mr. Lavoie knew his company needed to systematize their procedures to ensure consistent performance. And so on the recommendation of a colleague, he turned to Gabrielle Paldy of GKP Consultants for help in getting his company organized to simplify their professional and personal lives.

The first step in the process was the Discovery Meeting, where Ms. Paldy listened and observed as Mr. Lavoie and his team explained their operational structure and daily routines. After having assessed the situation and analyzing the areas that needed to be improved, Ms. Paldy then designed a series of personalized training programs for the team that included elements of both physical and mental organization.

“The whole objective was to help us save time,” said Mr. Lavoie. “We quickly realized that Gabrielle’s approach was based on solid experience and common sense, and because the techniques were so easy to understand and apply, we knew it was going to work.”

Following the training sessions, each employee was given a written evaluation of what had to be done to get them on the right path.

“It then became a question of discipline and applying the process in their daily lives,” said Mr. Lavoie. “But the bi-monthly follow-ups with each participant definitely helped keep the motivation levels up while they were integrating the techniques.”

GKP’s consultation and training delivered immediate results as the team managed to save a combined 30 hours per week, which is the equivalent of a full-time employee’s salary.

“Our Director of Landscape Operations can now accomplish, in 35 hours, what used to take him 45 hours,” explained Mr. Lavoie. “I’ve saved at least one day a week, and the remaining members of our team have each saved a minimum of five hours per week. Add it all up and there are a lot more hours available to take control of our work load and reduce the stress.”

“On a personal level, GKP’s techniques made perfect sense and really helped me to get a big chunk of my life back,” continued Mr. Lavoie. “And from an organizational standpoint, just knowing that my entire team is now on the same page as far as their physical and mental organization is concerned gives me more confidence to delegate and evaluate people’s progress. So peace of mind is definitely a very tangible benefit.”
